Social assistance is a public policy that aims to guarantee social protection for individuals, families and communities in vulnerable situations, but unfortunately not all systems are able to meet the necessary demands of the community.
SUAS (Unified Social Assistance System) programs often fail to cover the population, and Civil Society Organizations play a fundamental role in guaranteeing these rights, whether by making direct donations or by creating bridges that aim to guarantee their rights.
(on the right you can see the cover of the Second Emergency Campaign Report that describes the actions created to help the city of Jordão in one specific crisis moments)

Since 2023, when the first flood occurred in the municipality of Jordão, where the Institute was already established, we have helped the population with the donation of food, basic food baskets, clothes, among others.

In 2024, the worst flood in history occurred and the Flor da Floresta Institute joined forces with X other institutes in search of a stronger Coalition to act in the region. More than 100 basic food baskets were donated, which were distributed at the municipal headquarters to those most affected, in indigenous villages and some riverside communities. In addition, donations were made to the city hall and to the only hospital (that was affected) of health aid materials that were damaged or seriously compromised.
Climate change is becoming increasingly serious and is having a serious impact on the community of Jordão, where the area experiences periods of flooding contrasted with periods of extreme drought, which affect all local activities, such as agriculture, water supply, gas, electricity, among others. We know that, in general, climate change tends to affect the most vulnerable population, so it is necessary to address these issues urgently.
